More details to follow w/specifics of tryout week
Team Requirements: In order to be on the team, you must be able to commit to the following:
Regular, daily attendance at every practice. Practices are mandatory for everyone and take place from 3-5 during the week.
Commitment to all meets. It is expected that you will participate in meets throughout the season, including invitationals when invited to do so.
Varsity Letter Requirement: In order to be a member of the Varsity Track Team (earn a letter), you must be able to commit to the postseason. This includes OCC, District, Regional, and State meet dates. (see attached doc and please let me know if you have questions). This assumes that if given the opportunity to run in these meets, you will be able to do so.
Tryout Details: We will be implementing a tryout process again this year. Our goal is to keep our numbers loosely in the 80-90 range per gender. These tryouts are intended to narrow our numbers down to this range. Please see details below, and let Coach Beattu know if you have any questions.
Date: 2/20/2023-2/27/2023
Time: 3:00 PM After School
Location: TBD (Meetings in gymnasium, tryouts on the track)
What to Expect: Our tryout process is designed to assess athletes across various disciplines within track and field. Participants can expect to engage in the following activities:
Warm-up and Stretching
- 1 Mile Test (Required Time: under 9 minutes for sprinters/jumpers, 8 minutes for distance runners)
- 60 Second Test (how far can you sprint in 60 seconds)
- Jumping Test (30m dash, broad jump, overhead back throw, triple broad jump)
- Strength Assessment (Throwers only) **Note: Throwing spots will be limited. Some throwers may be allowed to join the sprint or distance groups if they are able to meet the mile requirement.
What do I bring?
- Athletic attire--dress for indoor activities and outdoor elements.
- Running shoes--these are very important. Make sure you have appropriate running shoes.
- Water bottle--water will not be turned on outside. A full water bottle is vital.
Any personal equipment for specialized events (running spikes, etc.) - Registration: To participate in the tryouts, please make sure you are signed up for track and field on Final Forms and have all of your paperwork (including updated physical) completed before tryouts. We encourage everyone to get a head start on forms to streamline the process on the day of the tryouts.
Contact Information: If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to Coach Jacobs or Coach Beatty. These are new changes and we want to make sure that everyone understands the process.
We look forward to seeing you at the tryouts! Let's make this track and field season a memorable one!
