TEAM GOALS 

  1. Athletes will COMMIT to the program and the team.
  2. Athletes will FOCUS during all practices and team events. 
  3. Athletes will COMPETE when given the opportunity. 
  4. Coaches will field the best possible TEAMS for the OCC Cardinal Division Championships and District Championships.
  5. The team will ADVANCE as many individuals and relays to the Regional and State Championship meets as possible.

TEAM PARTICIPATION & EXPECTATIONS

TEAM PARTICIPATION

 

1. All athletes are welcome to join the Track and Field team, given that they are in good standing. There will be a tryout within the first week of practice. This includes a minimum mile time (and/or in some cases an event specific trial). Details are listed below.

2. In order to participate in practice beginning on February 20th, you must have all appropriate paperwork completed. Please see the Jerome athletics website for all needed forms and information.  All forms are now being completed online. Also, please make sure all athletes are signed up on TeamSnap and receiving notifications

3. As of February 20th, 2024 Track and Field practice is mandatory for all. Daily

attendance will be taken. Excused absences must be approved by Head Coaches, Coach Jacobs or Coach Beatty. Communication prior to the absence is vital. An unexcused absence can affect your eligibility for that week’s meet(s). After 3 unapproved absences, you may be dismissed from the team. Specific questions should be directed specifically to Coach McRae and/or Coach Beatty.

4. The Jerome T&F Team is supported by our parent Booster Group. This group serves to assist in providing the best experience possible for all athletes. The Booster Group provides team shirts, team bonding activities, extra equipment for the team, uniforms, and much more. In order to continue to provide this support, the Booster Group asks that you contribute through a Booster Fee and assistance in our team fundraiser. This year’s Booster Fee is $100.00, and it can be paid by cash, check (made out to Dublin Jerome Track and Field), card (the night of the team meeting), or Zelle (dwiblin@live.com). We also hope to have the Teamsnap invoice payments available.

 

 

TEAM EXPECTATIONS

1. Be respectful and listen to your coaches. It is expected that you will follow directions and take instruction for your coaches at all times. This means giving your best effort and following through with workouts, practices, etc. It is expected that you will be a good teammate.

2. Track practice takes precedence over any club sport, out of season sport, private sports or music lessons, and/or work obligations. If you have questions, discuss this issue personally with your head coach. Any conflicts need to be discussed and approved by head coaches.

3. Practice begins at 3:00 p.m. sharp on the track unless otherwise instructed. Athletes should plan to be on the track and ready to begin warmups PRIOR to 3:00. Be ready for all weather conditions!!! We live in Ohio and never know what we might get! Always be ready.

4. Practices take place Monday-Friday, generally. Once meets begin, we may not practice on a meet day. Additionally, there could be a need for practices on Saturday through the spring. Athletes will be given advance notice of these dates.  These will include a lifting session and some specialty/agility/flexibility work.

5. Your actions and appearance need to be team oriented.  Understand that your action or inaction does affect each member of the team. We expect you to represent the team in a positive and upright fashion. This includes dress, behavior and commitment to the team. It is expected that you will dress, behave and commit to this team in an upstanding fashion--if there is conflict in this manner, expect consequences to your choices.

6. Attendance at registered meets is mandatory. Transportation to and from meets will be provided; however, our transportation needs are more difficult to achieve than ever before. For this reason, parents will at times be allowed to provide transportation to and from the meets this year. It will be very important that parents and athletes communicate this through a form that will be sent out a week prior to the competitions. This form will need to be accurately completed in order for us to know how many buses we need. We have been informed that we will NOT be able to get a bus before 4:00pm, so we are encouraging parents to transport if possible.

PLEASE NOTE: ATHLETES ARE NOT TO TRANSPORT THEMSELVES.

7.     The use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco are strictly prohibited as a member of this team. Make the commitment to your teammates to keep your body in top condition. No exceptions–this behavior is not tolerated on our team.

8. All Dublin City Schools and OHSAA rules will apply and be enforced.

**Note that failure to follow through with these expectations may result in dismissal from the team and/or loss of PE waiver completion.**

DETERMINATION OF TEAMS

For the 2024 season, we have decided to NOT include a JV(B) team. This means that all athletes on the team will practice every day as a unified group.

In order to be eligible to participate in the track this year, all athletes must meet a minimum mile time to demonstrate a general level of fitness. This timed mile will take place during the week of Feb. 20th.

Minimum Mile Times:

GIRLS: 9:00
BOYS:  7:00

**Note: There may be other qualifying marks for specific event areas. Additionally, those who anticipate running distance may have faster requirement times. Event coaches will speak with these athletes directly.**

 

MEET EXPECTATIONS AND EXPLANATIONS

**Language Clarification

*Full Team Meets are open for all members of the team. These meets take place during the week, usually on Tuesdays and the majority of the team participates.

*Invitationals are meets that take place on the weekends, usually Friday or Saturday. These meets are open to our top individuals and relays each week. Only 2-3 per event and relay members will participate.

1. All members of the track team should expect to attend the Full Team Meets. A failure to attend a registered meet could result in such consequences as sitting out the next full team meet or invitational, or dismissal from the team. If you are not part of the invitational squad, you do not have to attend, but are always welcome to travel with the team. It is expected that if you are invited to travel to the invitational that you will do so. As always, these cases will be dealt with case by case and will always be up to the coach's discretion.

 

2. All athletes should show up for the meet on time and dressed appropriately. Appropriate dress includes full warm-ups, regardless of weather, unless otherwise noted by the head coach. Purchase of team jackets is required for all athletes.  If athletes have already purchased one in past years, they do not need to buy another one. These jackets are available on the team store.

 

3. Invitational runners will be determined the week of the respective meet. Performance, attitude and attendance will all be considered when putting these teams together. Track is a team sport, and we will try to put the best teams together each week. If you ever have a question about the invitational lineup, these questions should be directed to your head coach. It is expected that when called upon, an athlete will be able and willing to compete in an invitational.

 

4. Make sure to remain a good supportive teammate throughout the meet, even when your event is over. Watch your teammates or ask a coach what you can do to help.

 

5. All undergarments for meets (leggings, compression shorts, long sleeves) should be solid black! No colored stitching—no white—no more than 1 logo showing per garment!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!! This can lead to a disqualification.

6. Jewelry is permitted while competing unless the official deems the jewelry unsafe. Be smart when considering jewelry (consider studs, small hoops, simple chains, etc.).  Communication through watches/electronic devices during competition is prohibited.

 

UNIFORMS

  • Varsity will have unique uniforms. These will be determined on a week-by-week basis and athletes may have to trade uniforms.
  • Uniform tops can be purchased in the team store if interested. This ensures you will get a uniform that is your size.
  • You will be issued a uniform top if you choose not to buy one. Shorts can be purchased on our team store, or you may purchase them on your own. Any solid black shorts will work.
    • Girls Spandex Shorts
    • Boys Long Compression or Split Running Shorts
    • **You do not need to get name brand shorts**
  • It is required that all athletes purchase a team jacket. These jackets are a 1 time purchase and will be used throughout your high school experience. The jackets are available on the team apparel site.
  • The link to the team store will be posted ASAP–please check it out for needed and extra items.
  • Additionally, all athletes must have black warm up pants. These can be chosen by the athletes and do not have to be identical. They do need to be solid black.

 

LETTER REQUIREMENTS

***In order to earn a varsity letter, you must finish the season in its entirety and in good standing. (i.e. If you are invited to compete on the District Team, it is expected you will participate.) If you are unable to finish the season as requested, a varsity letter may not be awarded.***

 

 Possibility 1--Athletes who place in the Conference, District, Regional and/or State Meets will automatically earn a letter.

Possibility 2--Varsity Letter = Score 18 points for the season.

 

How to earn Letter Points

Full Team Meets Meets: 

3 points = First place in a dual or tri meet

2 points = Second place in a dual or tri meet

1.5 Points= Third place in quad meet only

1 point = Third place in a dual or tri meet

1 point= Fourth place in quad meet only 

½ point= Fourth place in a tri meet only 

½ point= Fifth place in a quad meet only 

1 point = Member of a winning relay team in a dual/tri meet

 

Invitational Meets: 

1 point = Competing in an invitational meet

Athletes earn as many points toward letter as they do in the meet itself.

 

Possibility 3 --Achieve a letter qualifying time, height or distance at least twice throughout the course of a season.

These times are based upon performances from previous years’ conference and district meets, as well as guidelines set forth by similar schools around the area. These marks can fluctuate from year to year.
